About The Regional Parks of Maricopa County, Arizona
Maricopa County, Arizona -- which covers a land area larger than the state of Connecticut -- began creating its regional park system in 1954. The first such park was Estrella Mountain, located southwest of Phoenix; the newest is San Tan Mountain Regional Park, which is still in development but open to the public. All of the parks provide access to primitive desert and other types of scenery, and offer camping, hiking, or other respites from the hassles of urban life.
This group was originally set up only for Usery Mountain Regional Park, but has been expanded to include images from all the other parks in the system. Thus, anyone with pictures taken in any of the parks is welcome to join the group and post them here. To discourage "pool flooding" there is no limit to the number of photos you add, but try to add three at a time and then wait for others to post some before you add more.
Only two rules apply to this group. First, all images posted must have been taken at one of the ten regional parks operated by the Parks & Recreation Department of Maricopa County. The parks in question are listed here; other parks and recreation areas which merely happen to be located within the county, such as municipal parks, South Mountain Park in Phoenix, and the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, are excluded. Second, please tag each photo with the name of the park where it was taken.
If you wish to see a slideshow of all our group pool photos, click on that link to the right/top of the group images page and they will all start looping through. Lots of fun to see!
