About United States Army Air Forces
The USAAF group is dedicated to preserving the memory of all who served in the AAF during WWII, and this collection of images serves to remind us of their efforts and sacrifice.
If you have any vintage USAAC/USAAF related photos that you'd like to share, please feel free to join up and submit them. Subjects may include aircraft, personnel, vehicles or anything else related to the USAAC/USAAF of WWII.
You needn't be the photographer that took the photos. But please give by-lines, if known, for images which are not yours and PLEASE submit only period photos. That is, old, vintage photos which were taken during the 1920s through the 1940s.
To be more specific, any photo documenting US Army aviation during the period from July 2nd 1926, through September 18th, 1947 is eligible for inclusion in the group. I will allow a bit of leeway, especially for photos from the latter years of the USAAF's existence and the early days of the USAF.
Photos documenting the following organizations are also acceptable:
WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots)
WAFS (Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron)
WFTD (Women’s Flying Training Detachment)
CAP (Civil Air Patrol - WWII-era only)
ALSO: Please do not make mass-submissions of images found on other websites, such as Footnote.com. In the past I was happy to accept images from other sites, but would now rather see more original photos from 'Dad's photo collection' or 'Grandpa's old photos albums'... that kinda stuff, documenting a family member's time in the service. On the whole, such material is no more or less important than that which can be had from more 'official' or well-known sources, but it *is* often quite a bit more unique. I do not want this group to turn into just another collection of re-posted images that you see on forums and in other places all over the internet.
All submissions will go into a moderation queue, and are subject to approval for inclusion in the group pool based on the above guidelines.
If you are in doubt as to whether or not your photos are appropriate for this group, please make a post in this discussion thread and ask for clarification... please include a link to the image(s) in question. Or if you have a set that includes many images, provide a link to the set. An admin will be sure to reply to your query.
