About US Route 6
U.S. Highway 6-- that old highway from before the interstate system.

U.S. Route 6 is a main route of the U.S. Highway system, running west-southwest from Provincetown, Massachusetts to Bishop, California. Until 1964, it continued south from Bishop to Long Beach, California, and was a transcontinental route. It is now the second-longest highway in the U.S. Find more history in the wikipedia article.
Here we can share photos & discuss places on and near U.S. 6. It's an old, storied road, and as the interstate system came along, much of the architecture geared for passers-by has fallen into disuse. Other U.S. highways became part of interstates, U.S. 6 still has many independent sections that exhibit this kind of economic change.
The Pre-1964 California Section is fair game for the group, I believe, particularly the non-interstate section. According to Wikipedia, that's U.S. 395 south from Bishop, to California 14 in Bradys, to Interstate 5, to California 110 and Interstate 110 to California 1 in Long Beach. Here's a sign on the Provincetown MA end posted by a group member.
