About US Route 98

U.S. Route 98 is an east-west United States highway that runs from southern Florida to western Mississippi. It was established in 1933 as a route between Pensacola, Florida and Apalachicola, Florida, and has since been extended eastward across the Florida Peninsula and westward into Mississippi. It runs along much of the Gulf Coast between Crystal River, Florida and Mobile, Alabama, including extensive sections closely following the coast westward from St. Marks, Florida.

As of 2005, the highway's eastern terminus is Palm Beach, Florida, at State Road A1A. Its western terminus is near Washington, Mississippi, at U.S. Highway 61.


What's welcome here:

This group is for photos, postcards or ephemera directly related to US-98. Photos submitted to the group should be taken on or within one or two blocks of US-98, but no farther away. EXCEPTION... in areas where US-98 is pretty much desolate, posting photos of sights within a 1/2 mile are OK. Postcards or ephemera must be for subjects located directly on U.S. Route 98.

Both new and old routings of US-98 are welcome, including Business routes of US-98.

We're mainly looking for signs, buildings, roadside attractions, scenic views and the like here, the more vintage the better. Photos from your backyard garden or your pets (because you live on U.S. 98) are -not- what we're looking for, sorry.

Note: If you have multiple images of the same subject, please pick one (or maybe two) that you feel are the best and post that. We don't need 15 of your shots for the same subject. Thanks!
