Never saw this thread before. My name is Hans, I am a practising architect in Rostock ( Port of Berlin). I started sketching again when travelling after I saw those short movies about those 6 or 8 urban sketchers in Vietnam, Cape verde Islands, Japan etc. I pity I did not do as much earlier in life. But then the net was not there to give encouragement.

Hi, My name is Kathe Stumpf Julin and I am a designer/artist teaching in Central Wisconsin. In viewing the urban sketches here over the past year, I am very encouraged by your website for posting to a different theme each week along with general posts on the urban environment. I agree with some of the comments above that I wish I would have been doing more sketching over the years. I hope to start doing more of that now and post with the group here. Thanks for the opportunity and for all the inspirational and meaningful sketches that you all share. designsketching.blogspot.com/ .

Hi, I'm Amina and I'm orginally from the UK and from Pakistan. I'm planning a trip to Sarajevo later this year - still working out when, where, and how - and would like to get over my total shyness about sketching out in public! So, I'm taking the plunge and becoming an Urban sketcher in my current hometown of DC, and wherever else I travel so I can post sketches of Sarajevo and Mostar later this year.
You all encourage me, and I'll produce an urban sketch per week, culminating in a dream trip sketchbook by end of September. Deal? :-)

Hi, my name is Line. I am from Norway, and also grew up in Wales and Denmark. I have lived in the U.S. since 2000, and for the last nine years, I've lived in Brookline, an urban suburb across the border from Boston. I am a freelance illustrator, and I also create comics (with a local collective, the Boston Comics Roundtable). I have taken on the habit of never leaving the house without my sketchbook. When other people on the train/bus, in the waiting rooms or checkout lines pull out their smartphones to pass the time, I pull out my sketchbook. I am happy to have found a group who are as inspired by urban life as I am! :-)

Greetings,
I am Pedro from Madrid (Spain). I started sketching 25 years ago after discovering that writing was not any of my talents. I have been drawing on and off since then and it was only after returning back to Madrid from Stockholm where I lived for almost four years, that I am a regular sketcher. You can see a self-portrait below and check my work both in flickr and my blog (in Spanish but you can use a Translator gadget)
The 34 sketchrawl was my first one and I love it!!! Thank you everybody for sharing your sketches.

Hi everyone, i'm Kirsten-currently living in the Stuttgart, Germany area. I have been really impressed with the Sketch Crawl-Urban Sketchers movement and love seeing all the connections-thru-sketching that are occurring as a result. I love being around others that have the same passion for drawing--that would definitely be you all. Gotta love the 21st Century "digital campfire" that's giving us the chance to share. Happy to be a part of the tribe. :) k

I am Ricardo Salva. I was born in Chile but I have lived most of my life in London. Urban Sketchers has been a great motivation to carry on with my sketchers.
I love drawing segments, sketching buildings, still life, abstracts and the urban environment.
I am a self-taught, compulsive sketcher and illustrator. I draw something nearly every day. The source of my training has been art appreciation and the influence of family and people close to me since I was growing up.
I draw ‘en plein air’ and complete my sketches at home, in the kitchen, if I finish them at all. I think of drawing, which I regard as process rather than product oriented, as an intimate part of me. Drawing is interpretation.
I have no rules about medium preference as I like to mix up my materials. I tend to use pen - markers – ink – watercolours – wine and coffee which I think are suitable materials for the sketching process.

Hello! I'm a new member, since today! My name is Katerina Blinovskaya. I'm from Moscow, Russia. I’ve been very fond of drawing since the early childhood. I was graduated from art school and then from Moscow Architecture Institute, 2010. My qualification is “Architect-Designer”, so I work as an architect. In addition to architecture and design I am very fond of drawing and travelling. I always draw after main work if I have time (my hometown is so wonderful!) or on my vacations.

Hi everyone! I am Teresa from Spain living on the very south tip of my country! I have always loved all kinds of artistic expression and above all painting and drawing, though I've always been very scared to try! I am now giving it a try in my spare time ( I am a lawyer unfortunately not very artistic or creative mean of life :)) and the urbanskech movement has encouraged me to do it! Thanks for all the art you spread with your vivid and wonderful sketches!

Greetings all! I am Adrian from Boston!
I love this group! For three years I have been teaching "on location" sketching in Pubs and other locations around Boston. I have often directed my students to this group as a source of inspiration and ideas- Not only for the variety of techniques, media and locations but also for the way to approach the sketchbook! I have no excuse as to why I haven't joined already, but I am eager to exchange ideas and share my work with all of you!

I am AnAis. I live in Cuenca, a small city near to Madrid (Spain).
Since I felt I wanted to learn how to draw, I'm self taught and try to improve by myself. I usually carry a sketchbook in my bag, and try to use it in my travels and normal life.
I knew about the Urban Sketchers blog some months ago and it was amazing to discover there was people all over the world sharing their experiencies and this "drawing adiction" :)
I met some fantastic sketchers in Madrid, and my last "great experience" was in Lisbon, in the International Symposium:unforgettable!
Now glad to be part of this group..keep on improving and drawing! :)

During the day I manage the design of books for an academic press but I am a roving sketcher, people and places. I went to art school and trained formally and traditionally in life class, the print room and painting. I loved every minute.

Hi all my name is Bruno living in South of France,
Draw, draw and draw ...
I believe that we should not be afraid of his hesitations and doubts, they contain their share of truth and are part of the creative process.
Any form of design, whether scholar or primitive contains a hand craft that requires skill, mastery of this knowledge takes time and perseverance.
Acquire that mastery has long been a struggle for me and a fight, a race well done to the front, to the result. But today I discovered a real pleasure to play with the blunders and blemishes.
In summary, knowing how to draw asked me infinite patience to finally learn that the key is out of control ...

Hi everybody,
my name is Anni. I am an architect and live in Cologne, Germany. I started drawing when I was old enough to hold a pen. It was abstract art. My grandfather was a painter. My youth I put on paper, colourful, wild and beautiful. Studying architecture made me use a sketchbook. I drew architecture from the first draft to the detail. To pastures new, today I sketch faces and places. A little perspective, a little colour, a little abstract! I would sleep in my sketchbook if I could!
You can see those sketches also on

Hi! I am Ellen and I finally took some time to join the group! Urban Sketchers is full of delicious eyecandy. As a graphic/textile designer for a long while, I forgot about doing drawing for drawing's sake. THE HORROR! ( hear high pitched screams in background, glass breaking, chains scraping floor... ). Last July I started a daily sketchbook & blog. In 2012 began Urban Sketching. It is the best fun you can have and not get arrested!

Hi :) My name is Erin. I've been a long admirer of Urban Sketchers but haven't made an attempt to penetrate that world until now. Reinvigorating my interest in drawing and attempting to do more publicly. Like many others I've started a sketch blog in part to keep myself on task (matterofdesign.blogspot.com). Hoping to continually be inspired by my surroundings. American by birth, currently in Israel and soon to be relocating to Australia.
Happy creating!

----- My name is Suzanne and I am back to drawing after an indecent amount of time away from it. I love the sheer pleasure of it, of loosing myself into it, and of finding out more about those moments in time because I have to pay close attention to details. I love to use watercolor but have recentely discovered a few "apps" and I am exploring Adobe Ideas which enables me to draw anywhere and anytime with just an iPad that I already carry around for work. I have lived both in Quebec and in the USA, and I am now enjoying drawing outdoor scenes from Vieux Rosemont, an old but still thriving neighborhood at the center of Montreal.

Hola a Todos!
My name is Ariadna and i'm from Guadalajara, Mexico; still living here! I discovered the USK website couple months ago. I found it really interesting and beautiful. I started looking around in town if there was any US club or group, but no luck at all; so I decided to start my own. We are 4 now, that like to get together and draw. Also, I never drew before, this is new to me. To days ago I used watercolor for the first time and I have just upload it, for you to see it. Guadalajara has very neat places and sites that you will be seing soon. I love this activity, it takes me away from reality and sends my directly to a wonderful place full of color and beauty. Hope you like my galery, few works there, I'm a late boomer! Thanks to Gabi for creating this wonderful group.

Hi all, I am a watercolor painter who does most of my work as a way of recording what I see. Since I live in New York City, nearly all of it is urban sketching!
I recently began to teach watercolor, and am having great fun at the outdoor class with fellow urban sketchers. We paint directly without drawing first. The class notes are here: www.flickr.com/photos/annewatkins/sets/72157628983604685/
Thank you Gabi and all the correspondents. Great community! We are making a worldwide record!

Hello all, people call me Terry, I'm an art teacher, artist, and musician in Fort Worth, Texas. I've always carried around something to draw with and in/on but never really sat down to draw the world around me. Mostly I would paint/draw images and words from my mind. Lately, my art has started to change from a graffiti, collage style work to a more realistic interpretation of the same ideas. In trying to learn to paint/draw more realistic I've gotten into urban sketching and started following the blog and the Flickr pages.
I like to draw with any tool possible but paint markers, Sharpies, white out, and pencils are my tools of choice.

Now I also found the way to this page. I'm Enno Kleinert. Known as professional illustrator, portrait painter, painter of the alps and as marine painter. On my homepage www.ennokleinert.de you can see a lot of my works. I was born in northern Germany, in Cuxhaven at the Northsea, but I live since 44 years in Munich. Through my many years of drawing and painting I bring, of course, lots of experience with and I am an expert of the German Maritime. In 2005 I did the paintings for 3 Tall Ships Stamps of the Deutsche Post, which were awarded the most beautiful stamps of the world in 2005 !

Hello everyone,
I'm Christiane and I'm very excited about becoming part of the Urban Sketchers community.
I grew up in Germany, but have been living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the last 12 years, where I work as an illustrator and illustration professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.
I've been sketching on location in my sketchbooks on and off for a long time, mostly when I'm traveling, but didn't realize until I came across "The Art of Urban Sketching" book that it is "urban sketching" that I really enjoy.
I've just set up a flickr account dedicated exclusively to urban sketches and as I'll be traveling to Korea shortly, I'm hoping to bring back a lot of urban sketches from there!
