Lightroom Presets

Okay, so I've been screwing around with Lightroom and don't hate it...but don't really like all the constraints either. Lightroom doesn't let you have unlocked control of the color channels so making a 1:1 Urban Acid Preset is impossible. I have 2 presets for you guys that are close, but not exact. I think 102 is a little closer to the original, but 101 has some merit. Anyway, the presets are located here:

If anyone has a better place to upload these, let me know.

Thanks man.

For those who are puzzling over how to import these into Lightroom:

In Lightroom
1. Open up your Presets (default: left window pane)
2. Anywhere you want the preset to appear in the Preset list, right-click (in Windows) / ctrl-click (in Mac)

A popup menu will appear.

3. Choose Import.
4. Browse to where you saved the preset files.

Once you select them, they will appear among the Presets.

Yeah lightroom takes some getting used to, what's nice is the speed of presets compared to working with actions in photoshop. I will mess with these presets over the weekend. Since you mention limitations of the preset, if anything it will give people a quick view of what the photo will look like and if they want to do more, they can jump into photoshop and mess with it there.

Thanks for making this for everyone!

It doesn't have the nice color curves that Photoshop CS has but you can adjust each color individually.

I just tried them both with the same source and well, I don't think they will ever come out the same. The Photoshop action has many levels of tweaks while the Lightroom one could get to the same point but is much simpler. So not at 'artistic' in technique as the Photoshop action, but more accessible.

I just fiddled with them.

Original:
YVR

With Photoshop action:

With Lightroom preset:

I think what the Lightroom version lacks is that 'faded color' layer. I couldn't do a lot with the reds in Lightroom other than bring the saturation right down and that is not really the same as what the faded color layer does in the Photoshop action.

You're absolutely correct about the faded/muted colors layer. You can't do that in Lightroom.

I didn't notice that you can tweak the vibrance and saturation in the "Basic" tab to get a more muted effect if you'd like, but I was trying to capture the colors of the "acid" layer, not the acid + muted layer.

Also, I know you can tweak each color in Lightroom, but the colors are locked to each other. In other words, when I tweak red, it affect green and blue. In Photoshop, I can change the color curve independently for Red, Green, and Blue. This is what gives the Urban Acid it's unique color response.

I'll keep tweaking and post anything new or better.
