About Another triumph of the human spirit

A crippled man drowned with his friend on a gray afternoon after their small boat capsized in a remote stretch of a small, tree-tangled river. The friend's sister was among a clutch of men and woman grimly awaiting recovery of the corpses. Asked if the crippled man used a crutch or a cane, she scowled and said: "Used a bottle," then turned and walked away.

The young man documenting the proceedings put pen to the paper of his notebook and wrote: "Another triumph of the human spirit."
