The 2nd Flickr meet up turned out to be great! I would say a very successful one! Assaribahaai Saabas to all those who organized the meetup! : )
Mr. Nasheed, Minister of Information, Arts & Culture along with Mr. Hussain Shihab, & some other officials (from the Ministry & the National Art Gallery) also participated.
Mr. Nasheed handed over the awards & guess who won the Flickr sexy icon award? Nausheyn!! Too bad you are out of the country man!
Mr. Nasheed & the officials promised that they would do everything in their capacity for the Maldivian Photographers & also suggested some ideas. It was awesome! Let's also hear from others who attended dhoa!

Yup free coffee, unlimited bottled water and a free ice cream ( cornetto style). Was very exciting and fun. For me Muha was the star of the whole event. Nice story about how he ripped his pants while trying to get a shot of a couple of kids on a jetty.
Cant wait for the next one. My congrats to all the winners.
PS, I am experiencing a very slow data transfer rate from flickr. Hows everyone else doing?

This was bigger than i expected. The awards and the presence of government officials..... and yeah... maapu, Zaahid, Mohd, Muha presented the meeting very well. It was fun.... And met most of the Flickr users. Around 32 turned out. And yeah i met miharbi, who was my Practical Arts teacher back in 1997, and buggae my scout patrol leader in the same year. Met em after 10 years..

I guess everything's been said here... the meetup could'nt had been any better. It was perfect from the beginning till the end.
I would like to thank all who won the prizes and the certificates and everyone that attended this meetup.
I hope shampoo u claimed your reward already. please post a shot with the sunnies here we would love to see it.
Especially these people (not in any perticular order) Zahid, Muha, Mode, Nattu, Obofili For making the event such a great one for us all... with out these people it would'nt have been so perfect.
also a big thank u to fathu (nausheyn) for saying yes to read out all the certificates with such short notice.
On a personal note: This is only the beggining of something very special.

We are planning to bring all flickr Maldivians under one umbrella. The purpose is simple.
Exposure... to a wider audience.

This is infact a shortcut to the flickr photo pool group www.flickr.com/groups/maldivesphotodotcom/
Please join this group and post the photo you think will represent you best, among other members.
The Ministry of Arts has suggested a number of ways, that will help market this name efficiently.
Hence, this Friday, there will be a short feature about this, on tvm.

Sunie, I think we can post one photo that links to our other ones. We can change it if we want, but just keep one in the pool (well atleast thats what I think he explained)
EDIT: nevermind its in the guidelines when you join :P

Hey the URL idea is great, but I think its kinda lacking if it just links to a flickr group page. I think it would better if it were a proper gallery website, with proper links to the photos, with the members name clearly visible. Bring more of a showcase feel to it. With decent image sizes etc. There should be web devolopers and designers here more than capable of it. I remember a lot of people mentioning it as their background at the flickr meet hehe.

zahid: The meeting was very impressive. i talked to the HussainShihab on the night of the meeting (after the meeting) and he said that the Ministry was impressed with the group and how enthusiastic we were, and as u say, the ministry was gonna do all kinda stuff to help the group. He mentioned a few ideas he had too. I think the meet up really stirred the youth inside them;-) I mentioned my ideas too ( they were as in line with the ideas of the group ofcourse)

about the dot com.. my view is, this is where to start. A gallery website would be cool, but it takes a lot of effort and time.. with a link to flickr the advantages are that its easier for members to post and for admins to maintain! So right now this is the best thing to do (yay.)
I may suggest, though, that to make it more "Maldivian" why dont we take a dot mv domain ... maybe dhiraagu will be interested in giving just the domain name.. maldivesphoto.mv for free... with a small pop-up ad from them.. and a redirection to flickr group.. no hosting needed just a DNS entry..

millzero i have deleted the photo's you posted to this thread as it takes too long to get this page loaded.
I also made a new thread for the photo's from the 2nd flickr meet. I hope u dont mind posting all the shots to it.

meet up. i am saddend for not being able to take part in the evening with all the participants.
zahid, nattu, milizero, mode, these are friend whose memory will never be erased from my memory.
i will ask from muha, maappu, when i see them if they want a friend from addu. miharubi, though not
seen is an informative good friend! i recall the memory of shamufilth and hunaish. zahukko is very

Thanks firaq... i would like to have another friend from addu. heheh, Infact we (our band) have plans performing in addu on the 31st july (organised by the unicef) still under "negotiations" i may add.
So as much as (or prob more...lol) i love performing in addu i am looking forward to all the great photographic oppotunities lies ahead (lol)
So even if i am not going to addu to perform i am still definitely taking a flight to addu because i have never been there and i wanna visit there to take some photo's and i think mode's gonna come with me too dho mode?
hey if u are coming to male' on the 29th thats tomorrow (cool!) i will probably see you tomorrow i will ask zahid and mode to give me a ring so we can all go for a coffee.
