About Uncle Sam - The National Symbol of the United States
This whimsical group is dedicated to all historical information relative to the life of Samuel Wilson (1766-1854) — and the growth of the iconic National Symbol of Uncle Sam.
Uncle Sam's historical background includes his birth in Arlington (Menotomy), Massachusetts; the move of the Wilson family to Mason, New Hampshire, and then later to Troy, New York. Uncle Sam was established as the National Symbol of the United States by an Act of Congress in 1961.
We would like to develop this group to include photos of likenesses, photographs of art work, and the thousands of toys and products that have come to market with the iconic Uncle Sam branding – as well as the numerous things and places that have been named for Uncle Sam.
If you have a "fun-fact", "tid-bit" or story about Uncle Sam, please post it to the Discussions!
This is a child-safe group.
