04 Jan 09 - Since no UK-wide group existed on the flickr site, as a UK artist I decided to start a group for British artists and fine art photographers (including those based in the UK) to display their works. Works can be in any style or medium (traditional. digital, sculptural, etc). The group welcomes Fine Art photographs - i.e abstractions, portraits, still life, nudes, landscapes, conceptual works. The group does not accpt video art as there are good dedicated sites for this.

About "Art in the UK - British Fine Art & Fine Art Photography"

Having, to my astonishment, discovered that no UK Fine Art/Photography group existed on the flickr site I decide to start a group for British artists and fine art photographers (including those born elsewhere but based in the UK) to display and discuss their art and fine art photography.

The group is intended to display and discuss the work of UK artists, and of those originating from elesewhere in the world, who are based in the UK, and also of non-UK-based artists whose work in exhibited/sold here in the UK (and indeed, of UK artists work exhibited elsewhere in the world). So there is no need to stick to British born artists alone, or of works based on images of the UK alone.

This is an excellent time to celebrate art in the UK. At its highest levels British art has been in the forefront of international art for the past 25 years. 'Britart' was the media name applied to a group of conceptual artists, painters, sculptors and installation artists based in the UK. The group originally derived fame from shows at the original Saatchi Gallery in London from 1992 onwards, Their members include Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Gary Hume, Michael Landy, Gavin Turk, Georgina Starr and Tracey Emin, and together they are seen as the most influential group of visual artists to emerge from the UK since the Pre-Raphaelites. Their work is largely conceptual, and is frequently seen as controversial and provocative.

In addition, there are many other leading UK artists of recent times who have worked in more traditional medums and styles, including Francis Bacon, Lucien Freud, David Hockney and Anthony Gormley, all of whom have had a major impact on international art and artists.

And art in the UK at less exclusive levels has also boomed over the past decades with most British towns and cities boasting thriving assiciations of artists and the www allowing UK artists to exhibit, sell and critique each others art through personal and collective web sites such as the Saatchi site.

The group also welcomes fine art photographers, defined as "high-quality archival photographic prints of pictures that are created to fulfill the creative vision of an individual. Such prints are reproduced, usually in limited editions, in order to be sold to dealers, collectors or curators, rather than mass reproduced in advertising or magazines. Prints will sometimes, but not always, be exhibited in an art gallery." (Taken from Wikepedia.)

Please ensute that details of artist, work and place it can be seen are given in all pool postings.

It is very early days, but I hope this site will grow into something which reflects the broad range of visual artistic and fine arts photographic creativity in the UK on flickr.
