About Universal Abstract Art II
The group is open to photographs and other media that have an abstact theme.
About abstract art, Wikipedia has this to say:
Abstract art is now generally understood to mean art that does not depict objects in the natural world, but instead uses colour and form in a non-representational way. In the very early 20th century, the term was more often used to describe art, such as Cubist and Futurist art, that depicts real forms in a simplified or rather reduced way—keeping only an allusion to the original natural subject. Such paintings were often claimed to capture something of the depicted objects' immutable intrinsic qualities rather than its external appearance . . . . The more precise terms, "non-figurative art," "non-objective art," and "non-representational art" avoid any possible ambiguity.
Art that expresses Surrealism is also welcome in this group. Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s. Surrealist works feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur. Many Surrealist artists and writers regard their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost, with the works, themselves, being an artifact.
What is Abstract?
A rule of thumb: please refrain from submitting photos of objects in the real world that suggest abstraction or surrealism by virtue of a close-up or out-of-context point of view; that's not what this group is about. After all, that's what most good photography does as a matter of course. This group is about abstract photos and photos of abstract artworks. Is your photo "abstract"? A good test is to ask yourself if it shows subject matter that's easily recognizable. If it does, it's probably not "abstract." (The exception to this is recognizable objects placed in a surreal juxtaposition or environment. It's very subjective; give it some thought. If you're not sure, submit anyway. Our Moderators will be the judge.)
Participation
Play nice and remember to cover up the naughty bits until the kids are off the computer. We want to make this group family-friendly, and a lot of parents don't like their children unexpectedly being exposed to nudity. It's not a value judgement on your art; it's a reflection of widespread community standards. As they relax, so will we.
Lack of participation will kill any group. To prevent this, we urge Moderators and Facilitators to recruit at least 1 image per week, and invite artists to join the group.
Please don't flood the group with too many pieces at one time. Give others a chance to contribute and keep the group pool refreshing and varied. A good rule of thumb is no more than 6 pieces per week.
We welcome discussion.
