11 Apr 12 - I know we all hate "rules", BUT: the purpose of a Flickr "group" is that the images within all follow a certain theme or motif. Otherwise, every group would just be the same collection of random stuff. I'm now (regretfully) having to do a big clean sweep of images that don't belong.

Please respect the other members of the group and don't make me be one of those fascist tools who has to "pre-approve" photos before they can be added.

Read "The clean sweep" below for more details.

About Typophilia

This is a group for "Typophiliacs"—lovers of typography.
Features photos of letters, numbers, punctuation, other typographic marks.
Rusted, crusted, weathered, fuzzy, shiny, neon, painted, printed, whatever...

By now, you may be asking, "Am I a Typohiliac?"
Well...

• Do you like to take photos of letters, numbers, punctuation, words, old signage, etc?
• Can you sometimes name the fonts used on billboards you pass on the highway?
• Do misspelled words in professional advertisements make you so angry that you accidentally spill your Alpha-Bits® cereal all over the floor?
• Do you immediately notice when the kerning is off between the R and the T on the building facade of your local Wal-Mart?
• Do you know what the heck "kerning" is?

If any of these are true for you , this is a good support group for you to be in.

Okay, here are the dreaded "Rules":

(1) These should be PHOTOS of typographic elements. Please don't type some font in Photoshop, save it as a jpg, and post it here. OK, I suppose if you really wanted to be a rebel, you *could* type it in Photoshop, print it out, take a photo of it, and then post it here...but, well...really, come on dude, you get the idea.

(2) Typography (letters, numbers, and the like) should be the dominant (if not the only) element in the image. Please don't post a picture of a huge landscape that has a little tiny sign with a letter on it in the bottom corner. Again, you get the idea. :)
