Turtle Mountain Island is located about 10km off of the east coast of Taiwan. A former military base, it is now conservation base.

"龜山島又名龜山嶼，屬臺灣宜蘭縣頭城鎮，約於頭城車站算起，外海東方約10公里處。龜山島為孤懸於海中之火山島嶼，因其型似浮龜而得名。全島面積約2.85平方公里，東西長約3公里，南北寬約2公里，海岸線長約9公里。
其岩層主要是由安山岩質之熔岩流和火山碎屑岩互層所構成，島上最高點海拔為398米，加上涼亭共高401米，島上溫泉湧出，並有山巒、海蝕洞、湖泊、冷泉，特殊生植物及豐富的海洋生態資源。
自1988年解除戒嚴後，有關龜山島開放觀光之案經宜蘭縣政府、頭城鎮公所等多年努力，行政院於1999年12月22日核定龜山島納為東北角海岸國家風景區範圍，目前有航線往來頭城鎮烏石港，唯登島前需申請。"
