ABOUT US

This is a group for True Macro photographs only. There are many Macro groups on Flickr but all of them have too many close up images instead of real macros.

What's a Macro?
"Macro" is often misinterpreted as any picture that is close to the subject but that is wrong. A true macro is a photograph that has a subject that is as big as in real life (1:1 ratio) or larger (2:1, 3:1 etc).
True Macro photographs can be achieved by using macro lenses, extension tubes, inverted lenses with the adapters or a combination of the above. Exceptionally high quality lenses and large camera sensors can offer a crop which is equivalent to a true macro. But anything less than 1:1 ratio with the subject is most definitely not a Macro.
Therefore, we will only accept pictures which are :

1. 1:1 (life-size) or larger ratio with the subject
2. Clearly focused pictures - even if there is just a small area of focus, that has to be clearly visible
3. Not excessively noisy
4. Well composed and aesthetically pleasing
5. At least 500px wide

You may post up to 5 images per day, but beware that if your photo is not a true Macro, or it doesn't satisfy the high quality criteria, it will be removed from the pool. Please don't be discouraged by that, we will always strive to promptly answer your questions about why your photo was removed, to advise you how you can take a Macro photograph, and we will look forward to your future pictures.
