About Trig Points
This group is for photos of Ordnance Survey Trig Points.
These were constructed across the UK to help provide an unparalleled level of mapping accuracy.
Please tag your photo with the tag:
"Trig Point"
Include the quotes as this will keep the phrase as a single tag.
Ideally, also tag with the grid reference, not forgetting the two letter prefix, e.g. SU123654, also you could use geo:lon=xx.xxxx and geo:lat=xx.xxxx. You can get coordinates from www.streetmap.co.uk, find the trig point, click on it so the arrow points at it as exactly as you can, then search below the map for the convert coordinates link.
UPDATED: Now you can use the google map function.... I suggest that rather than just dragging and dropping onto the google map (See 'explore') that you get the grid reference by some other means (e.g. GPS, streetmap or google earth) and enter it manually - this will help overcome the sometimes dodgy resolution in the maps - and futureproof things when better satellite imagery comes in.
