Regarding the TN pen holder

Hi guys,
I've been seriously considering getting a penholder from Midori, but can't figure out which size to get.

The writing tools I most like to carry are a pencil and/or a Lamy Safari.
On the website that sells TN in the UK, they say that the small loop is mostly used for holding the pen by the clip.

Those of you who have bought a TN penholder, do you know if the small one would be ok for a regular pencil, and if the large one would be a good fit for the Safari?

Thanks a lot!

No, the small one is really too small for a pencil (it is really very very small), and the large one is too small for a Safari - because of the unique shape of the Safari's clip, you can't use the clip to attach to a pen holder, either.
(and the large one isn't huge, either)

Leuchtturm has some elastic pen holders on a sticker: I have attached one of those to the 2012 Diary, sort of towards the top, and use that to hold the clip of my fountain pen (not the body, as Leuchtturm intends: the elastic loop is too narrow and tight for that, it would take too much force to get the pen in), with the body held in place by the TN's elastic band.
That makes for a versatile setup, which works with most pens.

It works very well!

You could also make something like that out of a strong tape (like Duct tape, although I've used other stuff).
Just holding the pen clip in the pen holder, and then securing the rest of the pen with the TN's elastic band, has made things a lot simpler for me.

I have tried both sizes of the TN's own pen holder, but I've found them hard to work with: even if I do find a pen that fits, the pen holder gets looser, the pen flops around, and every time I remove or insert the pen, the penholder would shift out of place.

Hope this helps!
