Actually starting to not feel well, so I may not make it after all. I hope there will be a synopsis to read for those who can't make it.

Thanks to Geoff, Brad and Paul for their work in putting things together. Tonight's session answered a lot of questions... I'm really looking forward to the show!

So, when are those summary notes going to arrive for those of us that couldn't attend?

You'll have to ask Paul about the summary notes. He's putting those together. I hoped he would of published them by now. And once you have them, you will need to get everything together for Feb.4th. Sooner is better but we are down to the wire now.
In the meantime prep your images and make test prints on photo paper.
Flickr mail me if you need help.

Thanks Geoff. How large do the images have to be? I printed off my four selections on a 4x6 photos awhile back just to play with placement. I should be good to go more or less.

Phil - you have a space on the wall that is 3 feet wide and five feet high. How big you print is up to you so work using those dimensions to fit your shots within.
Keep in mind too that because we're working on canvas and the fabric (and therefore your shot) will wrap around the edges, you need an extra 1.5 inches on *each* side to wrap around the wooden frames.
Those are the main things for now while you're sorting out size details for printing ... other details from Paul to follow soon!

Looks like somebody paid attention at the meeting. Thanks Georgie for helping Phil. When the notes are published you'll know how to size your images and also put together a package which will contain a CD for printing and the cash fee for framing.

I try!
I'm going through all my shots from the walks and I'm telling ya, this is actually harder than the two solos shows I did!! At least with the other shows, there was a specific theme to work with and really narrow things down with. I want something cohesive but at the same time some of the shots I really like don't necessarily link together except for the photo walk thang.
Decisions, decisions!!

When we are planning the layout, can we assume that photos can go to the very edge of the 3x5 boundary, or do we need to allow some space around them? Thanks.

Genie - probably best that you leave a bit of a border, so to speak, so you don't crowd your neighbour and vice versa. :)

The original space for hanging the pic's was 3x3 feet positioned at a height for best viewing. Since we have a high ceiling, I revised the size to a 5 foot height to allow more flexibility for each display.
If your pic's are of a smaller size, I recommend a 3x3 configuration.
Space between each display has been allowed, so stay within your three foot width.
Your display may be better shown by hanging in less than a three foot width. Keep in mind that what works best visually is the way to go.
Take note: When submitting your package make sure you use your initials as file names for your digital images. The sample used has mine as an example. GJL-01-14x17tiff
This helps to keep you package together.

I have received this same question a few times now, so I going to answer it here. I thought it was brought up at the meeting be perhaps I was wrong.
If you are unable to sacrifice the 1½" border required to wrap around the frame for fear of ruining the composition, you have a couple of options.
1. Scale your image in Photoshop and make it work
2. Clone, Mirror, Heal Brush or Content-Aware Fill the extra 1½ around each side.
3. If you really must choose to border your image with a border of solid colour then I would suggest that you make your image another inch smaller so that you end up with a colour border on the FRONT that would then wrap around the frame. Hope that makes sense.
If you choose to go with a non-printed border for the wrapping you are doing two things...
1. Putting yourself at risk (no matter how small) that the framer can not wrap your image perfectly and you end up with an imbalanced mount, or something doesn't get communicated to me, the techs doing the printing or the framer.
2. You are working outside the boundaries of what the rest of the folks are doing, and your prints may stick out like a sore thumb.
Please bear in mind that all of these custom changes need to be detailed as the volume of work for me to manage it is enough that something could easily be missed.
You have been warned.
I welcome your thoughts.

Hey all
I don't usually photoshop my images, I do have photoshop elements 9, I have no idea how you use the program to scale, clone, mirror or content-aware to make the border I need, does someone else use the the elements 9 program that can help me out? I have never printed any of my images on canvas before and am feeling a little panicked (not to mention struggling to pick just 3 or 4 images) Thanks in advance if you have tips to help!

Go to the book store (chapters/indigo etc.) and get the book Adobe Elements. You'll find everything in there.

Wasn't at the Q&A session and reading over the package details again, I just realized we are supposed to provide sample prints of our images.
Are the sample prints supposed to be the same size as the print we would like to have printed for the actual exhibition? What are the requirements for these sample prints?

milksteaks.
The sample prints need to be at least 4x6 but can be larger like perhaps a 5x7.
This is needed so that the Tech can match color, exposure, etc. Be sure the sample is accurate.
A good suggestion is to proof your images with a print the size and medium of your choosing. This is the best method of checking your images for any errs or flaws before doing the final print. I use this check all the time when making expensive prints since what you see on a monitor is very different from a print.
When you turn in your image for printing: what you give us is also what you'll get.

The instructions seem a little unclear on what goes into which envelope. Perhaps the exact placement is not important so long as all the pieces are present and labeled as per instructions. But in case it is, can someone please confirm what goes in the large envelope, and what goes in the small one. Thanks.

Your money goes in the small envelope. Everything else in the large one.

I think the money goes in the small envelope, then it, as well as the proof prints and CD, all go into the large envelope.

Keep each envelope separate with the info written on each as shown with the examples that are posted.
