GEO Tagging Photos

I'm placing all of my Graffiti related photos on a map of Toronto (linked under info on each photo) so anyone can go and find them if they are interested. Just wondering of anyone else is doing this, or if there are any thoughts about this practice in terms of Graffiti.

I've been doing the same with all of my photos. But I think it's particularly important for the graffiti shots, as there's an almost archaeological element to capturing these sort of shots.

wow an actual reply, this group is the most reply shy I have yet to see. Another good reason for the Geo Tagging is that the Group Pool can be viewed as a whole on a Map, which gives even more info about hot spots, etc.

Something that I think would be very nice to have as a feature in Flickr to complement the support for geocoded photos is a timescale. By that, I mean the ability to look at photos taken of the same location but through different slices of time.

When I first came across tools that would enable me to geocode photos, it was through a set of tools from a research group at Microsoft. After running photos though a short chain of apps, the resulting photos could be uploaded to a site called the World-Wide Media eXchange. One of the cool features of the site is that it includes a little slider that allows you to jog forward and backward through time.

Now, the reason why I think this would be really great (especially for continuously changing landscapes, such as a graffiti-covered wall) can be best conveyed by looking at this site: Graffiti Archaeology.

(My friend Chupalo shared a link to this site with me a few years back.)

How cool is that?!
