*syz~, I was just thinking I should do something about updating the nominees list and here I've found that you've beaten me to the punch. Thanks for taking the initiative.
Regarding, "Trevi":
I also count 5 votes. Let me just remind people to type out GALLERY in all caps when you want to vote. This will make it easier to talley in the future.
Regarding Conditional Votes:
These are problematic so I'm inclined to disregard conditionals. A GALLERY vote for one specific crop or variation should be regarded as a GALLERY vote, period. Voters are encouraged to voice their preferences but it will still be up to the original poster to select their favourite for the gallery (assuming they garner the necessary six votes, natch).
My rationale is this: It had been decided in a discussion not long after the rogue admin fiasco that voting rules should be opened up to include valuable discussions as well as images.
I'm inclined to take the position that a thread discussion which yields 6 votes for a variety of images has provided valuable discussion.
Also, limiting votes to a specific crop may raise the hurdle too high and lead to gallery stagnation.

For ease of reading, I would not mind tracking the threads to update this thread's initial post (moliere and hodge could do that also) as appropriate.
Question: would a '2 weeks ago' timeframe (or other?) window be appropriate, or should we simply retain and accumulate the data henceforth under the "six nominations" guideline now in effect?

K - part of the purpose of this thread is that these images/discussions not completely fall off the radar screeen. but the idea is not to push revotes per se. the idea is to remind current members and newcomers to perhaps take a look at images/discussions whose links are featured here in order to mitigate unnecessarily bringing up those threads to the top of the heap so not to elbow out newer critique request threads. so, in effect, we would have 'one thread serve all'...

there is a distinct list of the older images linked to CAFE's main page. and I believe that those images would still qualify for the gallery if they got 3 noms since there was no agreement to 'grandfather' the 6 nom rule.

It's kinda true, in a way, and it's not entirely a good thing. How long do we need to see those threads on the list above? I don't think I would like to see my thread rotting on that list for an indeterminate amount of time, waiting to see if someone will notice it and bump it up a vote.
How 'bout one month and that's it -- it's taken off the list. For heaven's sake -- there's stuff from June on that list. Perhaps earlier.

Are any of those thread originators still active in the group? I'm curious how they feel about their thread sitting there on that list for months. Especially ones that have never had an image go to the Gallery.

thank you Kelly - I updated the listings.
As you can see, this thread was started by someone who has left CAFE in recent days - and some backlog has accrued.
If indeed there are really many more, do let us know. Hodge and I will have to look into this when each of us has more time.
If others have noted some missed Gallery votes pls let hodge or me know, in this thread.
Remember all that we are volunteers here, and we have pressures other than Flickr in our lives - so some tasks may take time.

I was thinking that I had one with 2 nominations, so I dug back through and found it: final resting spots.
Oh, and Kelly, there was a time a few months ago when everyone in CAFE was an admin. Then, after an "incident", many of us resigned as admins... many of the admins you see in the list are no longer active members of the group.

@Kelly: this group used to work differently when Moliere created it. Originally, only admins could vote for the gallery and people earned admin status by participating in good faith.
It was an interesting idea and worked fairly well until a couple of ugly incidents where one or more admins went rogue and started randomly deleting photos and comments.
A large group of us voluntarily relinquished admin status while the flickr powers-that-be routed out the offenders.
Since then, the group has been run more traditionally with SWR and myself taking the bulk of the responsibilities. With the occasional exception of iv0, the remaining admins are inactive.
If a straggler from the old days re-appears we send them a polite flickrmail asking that they step down by quitting the group then re-joining.
Hope that clears things up.

Thanks all for your understanding as hodge and I are working to catch up on the gallery board.
I sincerely want to list every picture in this thread that has one or more outstanding gallery vote - but we need your help, particularly if the image has dropped down a page or few.
no matter what you may think about *yg or about the situation that happened a few weeks ago, *yg was a quietly very effective group administrator, and we are trying to make up for his absence in this thread - which he started.
so please, if you know of any one-vote or two-vote images that we have missed PLEASE let hodge or me know, either by email or here in this thread.
we don't want to miss anybody's good work!!

Some of you may recall that I recently suggested abolishing this thread on the grounds that it was being used to keep old threads alive that in many cases deserved to be dead and buried.
My feeling is that if a shot doesn't muster the six gallery votes in active discussion, it can safely be consigned to history.
We want to encourage gallery votes and a reasonable turnover of shots on our front page, but having not-so-golden oldies come back to haunt us strikes me as unappealing.
I vote we spare the admins a great deal of effort and abandon the nomination counting - or at the very least restrict it to shots with five votes.
Yes, I'll admit it - my suspicion about this thread was that syz mainly used it to nudge his own shots into the gallery. he kept his pink sunset and white arches shots alive for months after their original posting. but this isn't about syz any more - does the group really need this feature ?

I tend to disagree. Regardless of syz's motives, I think the nominee's list is a good idea.
There's worthwhile discussion in many of those threads and it's a good way for regulars and newcomers alike to review past discussion of potentially gallery-worthy photos.
Ocassionally, an undead thread will reach the tipping point and a worthwhile shot will be inducted into the Gallery (OK, I admit I'm biased, I really like Klepto's "Thinker").
