Sharpening the image first is a good tip Scott, I like to boost the contrast sometimes too, especially if I want the painting to look like a 'paint by numbers' painting.

Thanks, Steve. I had a go with this technique. This is my first attempt

The one below was much more of a struggle. I had several goes and am still not certain that I have achieved the look that I wanted.

However I have been neglecting Simplfy of late and your tutorial has encouraged me to re-discover it. Thank you very much

Hi - they both look fantastic! Both have a lot of details to work with (and worry about) which can add to the challenge but you did a great job!
Thanks for sharing!

Kind of quick simple approach to soften a little after my Post Processing, then followed the Painting approach....in this case a little of detail then Simplify......

Than ks for the tutorial Scott. I will be trying this one out. Am on vacation so no printer - I wrote out all the instructions. I love all the different looks we can get with the Topaz products.

I returned to a picture that I had added detail and sharpening......just used simplify at a very low setting to soften but retain detail.....

A Comparison...

I used Underpainting in Simplify to produce this:

The original can be viewed if you open the picture and go to the first comment.
This was my first attempt using Simplify.

Gorgeous final result, Scott. Haven't tried the Topaz Denoise software, as I usually use Noise Ninja for that; but wonder if you've used both and found Topaz to be the better of the two?

Hi Senecabud
I have never used Noise Ninja, so I can't comment about whether one or the other is better.
Sorry!

Scott, I really like your settings and the tutorial. Thanks so much. I hope you don't mind, I made presets with those settings so I don't have to keep referring to my notes.
