As of 4/12, video cannot be embedded in discussion threads. Until this is remedied, we'll pretend it's 1996 and use good old fashioned links to string our stories together. A little less aesthetically pleasing, perhaps, but better exercise for the imagination.

About To Be Continued: collaborative video storytelling

Video on Flickr can be an interesting thing. The 90 second limit challenges us to break through traditional boundaries of the medium. The strength of community challenges us to take advantage of the network in innovative ways.

The idea for a collaborative video storytelling group on Flickr was fertilized on a recent photowalk. It has roots in the creative writing exercise, "write-around" and the graphic design game, "Photoshop Tennis." We hope it will continue to be expanded and refined by the participants in this group.

How to particpate:
0) Join this group - it's good for morale;
1) Shoot and post a Flickr video;
2) Create a new discussion thread and embed your video link to your video. Title your thread with the date and location you shot the clip;
3a) Pick someone to shoot a video clip of their own that continues the story you started. Send them Flickrmail and put their name in your post. They should post a new comment to your thread and embed their video.
3b) Someone may find your thread uninvited and continue it of their own volition. This is encouraged.
4) Repeat step 3 (or step 1 for that matter)

* For editing videos, we recommend Jumpcut, another Yahoo! service since Jumpcut can't export, we recommend Eyespot.
* For background music, we recommend CC Mixter.

In the spirit of collaboration, we encourage Creative Commons (cc) licensing of your videos. (In fact, the group icon is CC-licensed from Julián Rodriguez Orihuela)

That's all the guidelines for now. We welcome discussion and will adapt these as needed. Dive in!
