About The Vanishing Tobacco Kiln

The traditional tobacco kiln, once a common sight in rural southwestern Ontario, particularly in Norfolk, Oxford, and Elgin Counties (for example) is fast becoming a rarity. Tobacco farming's glory days have perhaps passed, and new regulations have demanded new kilns in many cases. Although not as romantic as the vanishing lighthouses of the Atlantic coast, the southwestern Ontario tobacco kiln is a vanishing cultural landmark, nonetheless.
