I have closed the group to further submissions. It will remain here at flickr as a collection of 200 wonderful and carefully chosen images.
Thanks to all!

About Miroslav Tichy Appreciation Society

This group is for photographers who have been inspired, moved, elevated or envigorated by the humble works of Miroslav Tichy.

Please post your best works done in the domain of the Tichy spirit.
We also welcome entries by photographers unaware of Tichy, but familiar to the spirit.

========================

I have been asked to clarify the goal of this group. Dammit, now I have to actually use my brain.
My impulse to make the group was that I felt that Flickr should have a place that honours Miroslav Tichy. He is the photographer whose efforts has moved me the most.

But off course, that does not clarify what kind of pictures that I think belong in the group pool.

I don´t want to be strict about it, but I will start by saying that a picture that evokes a Tichy´esque feeling in me or you is welcome.

Then we could look at the typical concepts and components in Tichy´s work:

- Unsharpness. We seek the kind of unsharpness that adds to the emotional impact.

- Candid. We are watching a world that we are only peripherilly connected to. But the feeling however, is still often very intimate.

- Gender. We are usually looking at women, haha.

- Distance. We are never too far away, yet never too close.

- Colour. Tischy only used colour in his framing, but I don´t have anything against it, if it still gives me that Tichy feeling.

- Dirt. Dust, grain, over/under exposure, crappy optics, grease, coffee, mold, rot, wear. It is all good, and it does not really matter how it got there, as long as it feels good in your guts.

-Equipment. Whatever rocks your boat! Tichy off course used his own laborously handcrafted cameras, and however fascinating that part of the history is, it is all up to you to choose your weapons.

I hope that is helpful in giving a shape to this group. So far, however, I am not going to be overly strict about "rules". Already there is examples in the pool of "non-Tichy"-style shots that manages to evoke the right feeling in me. It is really all about emotion.

Addition:
I just came to think of two more Tichy "components":

- I think he always shot from about chest-high (no viewfinder, off course).

- He was (is) living close to a local outdoor public swimmingpool. This attracted him a great deal :-)

The latter has also had its effect on this group, as I have not resisted adding several shots related to bathing and swimming. Perhaps there are now a bit too many lightly dressed women in the pool (no pun intended), but then again, I am only human.
