About Thinking Photography

Thinking Photography is a different sort of photography course

Thinking Photography is about Photography - making pictures: composition, light and decisive moments. But it's also about Thinking - questions about reality and representation, power, ideology.

Thinking Photography is about taking pictures and thinking about the pictures you've taken.

Thinking Photography is designed for:

* photographers who want to think more deeply about their art
* students of media and cultural theory who want to explore their reading in a practical way.

Thinking Photography is a Flickr group where anyone can add photographs together with a description that discusses how or what the photo means.

Thinking Photography is also a Blog where Paul Caplan posts his photos and theoretical notes.

Thinking Photography is a FREE course designed to:

* take you through a close reading of key texts.
* develop your photographic creativity sparked by those texts.

Each week, Paul Caplan posts a new brief on the Thinking Photography Blog and on Flickr. This consists of a quote from a key theorist, a short analysis and a photographic challenge. The challenge is designed to help you understand the theorist, inspire you to take photographs and then help you write your commentary.
