About The way I did that - learning through examples - WRITE 1, POST 1
Please read this info carefully...
The aim of this group is to *** SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE WITH OTHERS *** by posting photographs with detailed descriptions of the equipment, composition, post-processing workflow etc, giving thorough and thoughtful critiques to the other members as well as sharing your ideas on photography, personal approach etc with other members.
The basic rule is:
WRITE ONE - POST ONE
It means that:
IF YOU WANT TP POST A PHOTO TO THE POOL YOU ARE OBLIGED TO POST ONE NEW THREAD MESSAGE WITH A PHOTO AND AS DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT IT AS POSSIBLE FIRST.
The list below can give you some basic ideas about what can be included in a photo description.
As for the thread message, you can include the same photo as in the pool or a different one. It's up to you, as long as you stick to the rules and write us a nice, detailed description.
Before you post a photo to the pool, please remember to post a new thread with a photo and a detailed description. Photos in the pool with no corresponding contribution to the group will be removed... this is a place when people learn through examples, not another photo dump.
It's really a win-win situation. When you post something to the pool, you can expect that other members will write you some detailed critiques of your work. On the other hand, they expect that you'll share some of your knowledge with them by posting a new message as a thread. Eventually, we all want to learn and improve our skills, don't we?
Description guidelines (any new ideas are welcome):
1. What kind of equipment did you use for taking this photo (camera, lens, filters, flash etc). Did you encouter any technical problems or had to use some special equipment (filters etc)? Please try to be as detailed as possible. Also, try to write something about why you used certain equipment, for example a certain lens.
For example:
"I used 20 mm wide angle lens for this one to get as much action in the background as possible..."
2. Why did you choose that particular point of view, depth of field and a composition style. What were you paying attention to while composing the image? What did you want to say with that image? If it's a photojournalist shot, what is it about, what's the story etc.
For example:
"I've tilted the image because for me a crooked horizon looks much more dynamic than a classical straight composition."
3. Tell us what you did in post-processing. What software did you use both for RAW development and post-production. Again, did you encounter any problems? Maybe you had an idea about how the picture should like but didn't know how to post-process and had to work the problem out by yourself? Please be as detailed as possible... preferably write a step by step description. Short messages like "I just played a little bit with Photoshop" are unacceptable.
4. If it's a B&W image converted from a color one - tell us why did you think it would look better in B&W and what method you used for the conversion...
5. If you developed the B&W negative and / or prints yourself - please write what agents did you use, what kind of paper, how long did you develop the film and if you applied any special darkroom techniques - please describe them as well.
6. * * * BE CREATIVE IN YOUR DESCRIPTIONS * * * - the list above is only an example that is meant to give you some basic ideas. Think of something different that you would like to share we other members. I'm sure that there're plenty of things to say about every particular photograph.
All members are highly encouraged to give their critiques, advices as well as ask questions to anyone posting his / hers photos to the pool and descriptions as a thread message. It should be a discussion group, not just "here's the way I did that... you guys digest it and admire...".
This group is intended to be a serious place where people can share their knowledge and learn from each other. Where people can discuss their ideas, ask questions and find answers. Not a place just to dump your photos...
Best regards and welcome to the group!
