About The Shootaboot Journals

The Shootaboot Journals is the repository for the journals telling the stories of the photographic exploits of www.flickr.com/groups/shootaboot.

The word Shootaboot means to go about and is used by Geordies in the northeast of England when they mean dash about.

Photographers often go out alone and sad to say, that is a risky business these days. Some photographers have been mugged and had their expensive equipment stolen, and even sometimes suffered a physical beating. Shootaboot makes photography safer because while on a Shootaboot, photographers are never alone.

The Shootaboot group was started in March 2009 by Vee W Selburn, the Shootaboot Administrator, as a communication centre, or Online Camera Club for photographers who join the group. The main aim of the group is to encourage photographers of all experiences and skills to go out as a group made up of two or more people on an organised photographic outing, or Shootaboot. Shootaboot has become the common term used by group members to explain the act of going on a photographic outing.

Other valuable aims of the group are to share ideas and photographic knowledge and encourage each other, as well as to challenge the interpretive and creative skills of members through the monthly photographic challenges.

Photographers can sometimes be needlessly precious either about what they know about their cameras, or how they achieved a particular effect in a photograph. Shootaboot members share their knowledge and ideas, thereby inspiring each other to develop sound photographic and digital darkroom skills and techniques. They take great pleasure in seeing other members' photographs as well as sharing their own.

If you would like to find out about what Shootabooters get up to, please take a stroll through The Shootaboot Journals. I hope you enjoy reading them. The very least you will learn from them is how much fun we have as a group. Maybe you would like to join us? No matter where you live, what your skill level is, or the type of camera you use, you will be made welcome and if you want us to visit your area, make a suggestion for a Shootaboot, provide us with some information about your area and where you would like to go. It's that simple! Shootabooters love to travel!

Above all, we believe you should have fun with your camera. Shootabooters certainly do!
