About The Process

The Process is a group designed to encourage exploration and experimentation in the digital processing of photographs through the comparative enhancement of a single image by a number of different processors. Each week one un-enhanced image will be chosen from member submissions. Members are then invited to download the image and enhance it according to their tastes and interpretation, submitting the final result to the group for comparison and appraisal. We are interested primarily in the enhancement of images rather than montage or compositing, although all interpretations are valid.

MEMBERSHIP IS NOW OPEN TO ALL. PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ THE RULES BELOW BEFORE JOINING.

HOW THE GROUP WORKS - What you need to know

1. Submissions of original images should be made in the "Submissions" topic thread and NOT posted to the group pool.

2. One 'original' will be chosen from the "Submissions" topic thread per week. We will make our choice based on the quality of the shot and the potential for alternative interpretations. On occassion we may choose a shot that falls outside of what is considered as 'art photography' and see how members rise to the challenge of processing a 'happy snap'! Can we find beauty in anything?

3. Members' interpretations of each weeks' 'original' MUST be posted to that week's topic thread, at the same time as being added to the group pool. At no time may anything other than a processed version of that week's original be posted to the group pool.

4. Copyright at all times remains with the original photographer. At no time does the processor of someone else's shot gain control over its rights. Members agree to process originals for their own gratification and/or learning experience. Please see #8 for notes on processor's rights.

5. When a member uploads a processed image to their Flickr stream they MUST attribute the original photographer with a link in the description back to the original's photo page (the link for which can be found in the relevant topic thread). Members must also copy and paste this code into the shot's description:
<a href="http://flickr.com/groups/theprocess/">The Process: One shot. Infinte Beauty.</a>

6. While members submitting originals must be aware there will often be interpretations of their work with which they won't agree, any abusive or insulting interpretation of an image will result in the expulsion of that member. We want you to feel comfortable to submit your originals knowing that they will be processed with the respect you yourself would process them with.

7. Members can request that their originals be removed from the group only after a certain amount of time. This ensures all members have a chance to see and learn from each enhancement whilst being able to reference the original. It is important to emphasise this group is primarily interested with creating an environment in which people can learn what processing styles compliment their style of shooting, and obtain hints and tips on other ways to process their shots.

7. Members are under no obligation to reveal their methods; however we strongly encourage you to do so.

8. Processors rights: When members download an original to process they are doing so for their own gratification. If the photographer of an original likes a particular enhancement they must consult with the processor directly for permission to use it, and any details of uses and/or attribution of the processor's enhanced image must be negotiated between those parties. Our only stipulation is if the original photographer plans to upload any enhanced version of their shot to their stream they place a link to the processor's Flickr page attributing the enhancement to them.
