About The Photographic Essay
The photographic essay looks to gather photo essays in Flickr. A photo essay, in the tradition of Walker Evans, Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, W Eugene Smith, etc, is a group of photographs that tell a story.
Instructions for posting:
- Put all the pictures in your essay, in order if their order is important, in a set.
- Feel free to caption the photographs as needed by your essay.
- Tag them all "thephotoessay"
- Post to the group the first picture in the essay (do not post all of them!)
- If possible, start a thread with a link to the set, like this: www.flickr.com/photos/jbuhler/sets/1668635/
The moderation in this group consists only in removing pictures that don't follow the above guidelines according to the administrators.
What makes a good photo essay?
- Pictures should tell a story. Try to have a beginning, middle and end.
- Show different angles. Wide shots are needed to set up a place, but closeups will show detail that might help tell the story.
- Edit! Don't include unnecessary pictures. A good essay should be concise, think about 10-20 pictures.
