----- Competition 11 -----

Competition 11 will be CINEMA (Also known as "Crop'em Long"). For this competition we want to see those extra wide shots that look like they could be part of a major motion picture. (Techies, the aspect ratio for modern day widescreen is 1.85:1, so aim for that. Everyone else just "go long".)

For those who are about to ask “How do I take an extra wide shot”;
You don’t take it, you make it.
1. Take you’re favorite shot of the mountains, sunset or whatever.
2. Open a copy of it in PhotoShop or your preferred photo editing software.
3. Look in help for “Crop” (the methods will differ slightly in different software)
4. Using the above crop procedure, Crop a section of the picture that is a good bit longer than it is tall.
5. Save your cropped picture under a new name, you did it.
6. Post it so we can all have a look.

We'll post an example of before and after to give you the idea.

Note:
This theme was shamelessly borrowed from one of the competitions in our “Make Me a Pro” Competition group. If you don’t already have a pro account, folks are giving them away like crazy over there. Get in there and win one. Also if you have a pro account to give away, that is a fine place to do it (hold you own competition and see how easy Kaddy’s life as an admin really is).

Submissions for this round of competition should be posted as discussion on THIS thread, and should a small sized photo as described in the INSTRUCTIONS.

Entries from your photostream will be accepted.

This competition will run for ONE WEEK from June 13th to June 20th 2005.
And ONE entry per person please.

-----SLIDESHOW------
We will also have a slide show available for those who wish to participate. To be in the slide show please add the tag TC-Comp011 to your picture. The slide show makes for nice viewing, but “Official Entry” is your Post on this thread. To access the slideshow we have put a link on the Theme Competition main page.

----- Judging -----
Will be the winner from the last round of competition. Unfortunately they will not be able to submit any entries for this round. Sorry ;)

----- Summary of Instructions -----
Theme = Cinema (A.K.A. Crop'em Long)
Dates = June 13th to June 20th 2005
How many can I post = 1
Where to post = on this thread
Slide show tag = TC-Comp011
Judge = TBA
Old Photos? = OK
Photoshop = OK

Special instruction:
For extra fun credits add a title for the Movie. (may be a real movie that the pic reminds you of, or a title that is all your own)

Bayat, Technically, No. We wouldn't want to place too much on less skilled Photoshoppers (is that a word). We want this to be, for some folks, more of a learning exercise on basic cropping. Rather than having them worry about "what the hell is aspect ratio". for the more experienced. I think the 1.85/1 is an admirable goal, but I doubt the judge will be measuring with more that the eye (that is up to him or her).

Franco: the rule is 1. I'd have to say that 1 is the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be 1. Unless Kaddy contradicts me here. He'll be admin'n this one after tomorrow as I will be unavailable for at least a couple of days... and then only sparsely available.

Hey Acreeping- (Creep? ACM? Malaise? Your username just doesn't lend itself well to shortening!) Just wanted to mention that you've got "cinema" spelled wrong in a couple of places on your announcement , including the header. Took me a minute to figure out what a "cimema" was! :)

Kren [deleted] says:

I thought "cimema" was standing for something I don't know. A photographical term maybe :)

Only my opinion, but since it makes you have to scroll sideways, I think it's too wide. Great shot tho.

CIMEMA: I used a 1 bit encryption algorithm on the word so as to hide its true meaning. I see that several of the clever cryptologists among you were able to decipher the coded message. For the others, may I suggest a "Little Orphan Annie Secret Decoder Ring" to make future messages less baffling.

( ran it thru spell czecker, it didn't catch it cause it's upper case. I didn't catch it cause I am a BAD proofreader; I was out that day of skool. ;)

Eddy, you were very good in hiding the true meaning. And it was a good idea because the competition is not open yet. Some crypted discussion is in order.
