So I wanted to choose a theme that nobody could have an excuse for. This time round the theme is Let there be light! The main idea is that everybody in the group takes a photo involving light.

Hang on! I hear you say, isn't photography just about using light in the first place!? Exactly! Theoretically we should have 164 entries (I don't like entering my own themes), but I'd settle for over 10 :)

The only guidelines are that the shot must have been taken after the contest has been announced, and it must have some sort of artistic merit. The last part is completely subjective, but mainly the idea is that snapshots aren't really suitable, so a random shot of the ground probably isn't going to win, but it still counts as it still involves light :D

For those that like a little more direction, you could interpret the theme literally and take a photo of an actual light, or the sun etc. Or even just an object that has some nice lighting effects, such as back lighting, or rim lighting. Even just a well exposed subject - after all, it still involves light. Even if the main light is what's captured by the camera on the sensor/film!

So yeah, you get the idea. It's basically a free for all with some guidelines. Such an open theme means that if you come across a shot that you think has artistic merit, and is taken within the time frame but they aren't a member of ::The Thematorium:: then you should send them this way!

Voting will begin on the 22nd September 9pm AEST.

Even Light reflects off the back of the small things in life. Notice my reflection on the back of the fly. To me light has no boundaries.

Oh, bummer! I'm used to it closing Monday night on this side of the world and was working on my picture!

Next time I'll read the rules more carefully. :-)

Anyway, really excellent shots this week, it's hard to choose!

There's no set time - the rules just specify "Monday." But traditionally people end it Monday night in the US - something like 12 hours later than Monday night in Australia. It's up to the moderator of the week, though, and you did post the ending time - I just didn't read closely enough!

So I should have picked this up before, (and it took someone else to point it out to me), but #6 is invalid as it was taken before the contest was announced.

As this group is intended to encourage people to get out there and try new things I feel that I should emphasis that this is why the contest rules specify that a new shot must be taken within the time frame.

I hate pulling a shot out of the running, but rules are rules....

It *would* be a very different group if we were searching our archives for images to match the theme - not saying it'd necessarily be a bad thing, as such, but I like that the thematorium is about taking new images; much more of a level playing field I feel.

Voting is closed! Slightly late but better late than never! :D

(I realised that I should have voted first, so as to avoid it looking like I made sure a certain shot wins. Lesson learned, but I'm going to hold back my votes this time round.)
