About The Listening Project
This group exists as a global call for submissions of photos depicting people in the silent but very visible act of listening -- or, as the case may be, NOT listening.
The Listening Project began as part of the 2009 Gel Challenge, whose theme of "listening" asked entrants to devise a project/experiment/product/idea that would create some new experience to improve listening.
As a photographer, my first thought was this: Listening is a silent act; a photograph is a silent thing. So let's use photography to illuminate the silence of listening. Here's an example:

You may post your entries to this group. These can be older photographs, or new ones -- but honestly I'd rather this act as an impetus to go out with your camera and actively look for examples of listening; I think it will change how you see what's around you.
As curator, I will periodically cull through submissions and select winning photographs for inclusion on the project's website. I'll also post winners to discussion threads here, as well as updates and links to winning entries on Facebook and Twitter.
But this is also a community. Feel free to start a thread. Topics might range from the ethics of photographing subjects unawares, to how photography might be used in a therapeutic environment to show people how they're NOT listening to each other.
RULES:
> There is no deadline. This is an ongoing project.
> Images that don't reflect, denote, or relate to the theme of listening will be removed.
> Please post your nude pics and anything that's not work-safe elsewhere. (No offense.) Thanks.
> In the threads, be nice. :-)
That's about it. Get out there and start listening!
Thanks,
Jennifer König (a.k.a. jkonig)
