About Friends of The Hollies
A group for people who use The Hollies and Meanwood Park.
friendsofthehollies.wordpress.com/
The Hollies are situated in Weetwood, Leeds, and lead into Meanwood Park.
In 1921 the property and extensive grounds were presented to Leeds by George Brown in memory of his son, Major Harold Brown listed as killed in action in 1918. The house was used as a sanatorium for children suffering tuberculosis, while the grounds became a public park.
Upon entering The Hollies from Weetwood Lane, there is a formally planted area with native and exotic tree species. This is set alongside seating areas and open spaces. The gardens contain an amazing variety of species, including Pines, Maples and Sequoias, with lots of Rhododendrons and ferns thriving in the moist soil.
Sparrow Hawks and Kingfishers have been seen, and the very occasional deer.
