For those that don't know the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which is also known as the MCG or just The 'G, here is some of it's highlights.
It hosted the 1st cricket test match between Australia and England in 1853, the 1956 Olympic Games and the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Each year it hosts international cricket with the 1st day of the Boxing Day test regularly attracting 80,000 fans.
During winter it is the home ground of several Australian Rules (Aussie Rules) Football Clubs including the Melbourne Demons, Collingwood Magpies, Richmond Tigers and Hawthorn Hawks.
Each winter approximately 45 home and away games have been held at the 'G with between 2 and 3 million spectators turning up.
There has been 35 occasions when the ground has hosted over 100,000 people, including approximately 130,000 in 1959 when US evangelist Reverend Billy Graham held a crusade on the arena, and 121,696 to the 1970 Australian Rules grand final.
Other sporting events that have been held there included Olympic and World Cup Qualifying Football (Soccer), Rugby League State of Origin and Rugby Union Test matches.
It has also hosted Pope John Paul II for an ecumenical service in 1978.
It is also a major concert venue. David Cassidy, David Bowie Paul McCartney, U2, Madonna , The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, the 3 Tenors (Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti), Elton John, Billy Joel, Kylie Minogue, Paul Kelly, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, Hunters ‘n Collectors, Jimmy Barnes, The Police, Fergie and Ficton Plane have all performed there.
