07 Mar 12 - Welcome to the:democratic:eye - a group that tackles the everyday by avoiding the obvious! Please don't confuse "mundane" with "boring". The photographer should be looking to elevate the mundane into something interesting or beautiful in its own right.

About the:democratic:eye
William Eggleston famously talked about being at war with the obvious. Aaron Siskind was fascinated by the drama of objects. Keld Helmer-Petersen expressed the importance of form in colour.
What unites these great photographers is their love of the mundane, the insignificant and the everyday. From obscure abstract patterns on the surface of decaying walls to bland found still-lifes these guys went about their photography with a democratic eye: not ruling out the kinds of things the majority of people pass by.
So that's what we're looking for here in the:democratic:eye...all those things most people look at but never see. The things most photographers would never think about pointing their cameras at.
You will of course be inspired by Eggleston, Siskind, Helmer-Petersen, Stephen Shore, et al. You will aproach the world with a democtaic eye and an intelligent mind. You won't be swayed by cliches and what others shoot. You don't necessarily care about equipment or right and wrong ways of doing things. All that matters to you is the final picture.
All sound good? Then, please, show us your Democratic Eye.
