About The Carnival Band
The Carnival Band is currently in a state of transition.
Musical director Marcos X and band manager Devon 8, both part of the group for eight years, are retiring from the band.
a brief history of the Carnival Band
The Carnival Band was founded by Dan Vie in 1997. In 1999 Marcos X was hired to become musical director, with Ross Barrett as lead horn. In 2003, the band made their first international tour to England and Germany.
In early 2006, Devon 8 became the general manager. She booked and handled the shows through 2006-2007, including the return to England and Germany, and the shows in France, the Basque Country, the eastern United States, and China.
A spontaneous performance in London, England, lead to the "internet phenomenon" of Traffic Wardens Need Love, created about a video on YouTube of the Carnival Band serenading traffic wardens.
As of August 2007, Marcos X and Devon 8 have departed from the group and the band is undergoing a transformation once again. Please check website for future updates.
(You can check out some of our pictures on the Honk! Fest flickr pool. In October 2006, we travelled to Somerville, Massachusetts, to attend Honk! Fest, a gathering of street bands from around the United States- we were the only Canadian group.)
