Introducing The Blind Hem, an online compilation of intelligent fashion writing, art and photography. The Blind Hem will be an online magazine in blog form, pulling together some of the best available fashion content.
Contribute fiction, non-fiction, poetry, interviews, articles, personal essays, art/illustration & photography!
We welcome submissions from writers of all professional levels, regardless of publishing history. Send submissions to: contribute@theblindhem.com. Please write submission in the body of email or attach in .doc or .rtf form. Fiction and poetry should have some connection to fashion - a theme, a metaphor, etc. Please include a short, third-person biography and links to your blog, portfolio or personal website with each submission.
We also welcome submissions from artists, illustrators and photographers! Fashion, the art of dress can be the subject or a more subtle theme running through your work. We also need art/illustration & photography to be companions to our text pieces - if you feel your portfolio might include works that we would like, please send us a link to your portfolio!
We are looking for work on how the art of dressing has enhanced life. How the perfect stitching in the seam of a vintage dress makes your heart stop. How emotions are connected to clothing. Fashion as a weapon or as a support system. How does art and culture influence fashion? The history of a certain item. Regional trends that tell a story. The social and cultural constructs surrounding fashion blogging. Reviews of collections seen through a lens (historical, social, cultural, feminist, etc.). Pieces that are heartfelt, honest and intelligent.
