About The Belmont

November 30th, 2007:

"A funeral:
We, the residents of the belmont, on this somber occasion, invite witness to our mourning - we lament the passing of this body, of these bodies, with our cries. As we build this pyre, so it burns, and we are transfigured by light."

This building was home to artists for more than a decade, but has since been slated for demolition to make way for yet another gargantuan condominium development.

Before it disappeared forever, artists gathered to cover every possible surface of the belmont, inside and out, with their art. They turned the building into a cacophonous collage of styles thereby celebrating the life, as well as marking the passing, of this very special place. It will be sorely missed."
