About The Family of Man

In 1955 Edward Steichen with Wayne Miller mounted an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. It was the most ambitious exhibition that had been attempted up to that time. The collection and selection of 503 photos from 68 countries by 273 photographers, men and women was almost three years in the making. Over 2 million photographs were screened down to the final 503. Steichen, in the introduction, said, "It was conceived as a mirror of the universal elements and emotions in the everydayness of life -- as a mirror of the essential oneness of mankind throughout the world." This group strifes to follow Steichen's vision of presenting the "--the gamut of life from birth to death with emphasis on the daily relationsips of man to himself, to his family, to the community and to the world we live in --". I will be soliciting some images and will accept other submissions. It is my earnest hope that we will have photos form many countries and many photographers. My efforts will be aimed at diversity and inclusiveness.

Copies of the book, The Family of Man, are available in many used book stores, e-bay, Amazon and other place.
