About Texas Missions
Spanish colonists built Catholic missions and presidios throughout Texas from 1682 to 1793. The greatest concentration were around Nacogdoches (near the Lousiana border), San Antonio, and El Paso. The most famous one is Mision San Antonio de Valero, now called the Alamo. In addition, the Mision Espiritu Santo and the accompanying Presidio La Bahia are located in Goliad.
Many are well preserved, and some still serve as parish churches.
