About TEDx Vancouver 2010
TEDxVancouver 2010: “The Fine Line”
Saturday, November 27th, 2010 – Kay Meek, West Vancouver
The event’s theme, “The Fine Line” is a subject perfectly suited to Vancouver, a city of immense contradiction and fine lines everywhere. Vancouver is a place where East meets West, where you never know if it’s going to rain or shine; a city where you can turn a corner and experience extravagant wealth and crippling poverty on the same city block. These interstices reflect the sometimes contradictory and dichotomous points of view in our rapidly changing world- ranging from art and technology to the environment and social issues.
Our goal is to demonstrate how diverse viewpoints are a catalyst for cutting edge technology, world class research, great works of art and social change. Like TED’s own mission, “The Fine Line” represents the space where ideas are born.
About TEDx, x=independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx where local, self-organized events can bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
