About TDWG TechnoBioblitz 2010
Attendees and friends of the Taxonomic Databases Working Group are conducting a biodiversity survey of Woods Hole, Massachussetts in association with their 2010 meeting this September. Participants are invited to add their images to this group so that their observations can be harvested and added to the inventory.
In order to be harvested, your images will need, at a minimum, a machine tag with at least one scientific name.
Here is the official list of machine-readable tags recommended for the group. To suggest improvements, leave a message in the Machine tag thread.
Not all of the tags will be used by the TDWG Technobioblitz. There are others who may use these images and who may be interested in other tags.
Please note that you typically need only one of the taxonomy tags (ideally taxonomy:binomial) for our software to know where to put your image:
taxonomy:kingdom=*
taxonomy:phylum=*
taxonomy:class= *
taxonomy:order=*
taxonomy:family=*
taxonomy:genus=*
taxonomy:species=*
taxonomy:binomial=* [use for scientific names with two parts, i.e., genus and species with a space between them, enclose in quotes]]
taxonomy:trinomial=* [use for scientific names with three parts, i.e., genus, species, and subspecies with spaces between them, enclose in quotes]
taxonomy:common=* [the common, or vernacular, name, need quotes if includes spaces]
*replace with the name
Ideally, you will also include a location.
Use Flickr to place your photo on a map, or add coordinates manually using the following syntax:
geo:lat=* [replace the star with the latitude]
geo:lon=* [replace the star with the longitude]
geo:long=* [replace the star with the longitude - equivalent to geo:lon]
geo:alt=* [replace the star with the altitude]
For those particularly savvy in geolocating metadata:
geocode:accuracy=
geocode:source=
geocode:datum= (e.g. WGS84, etc.)
You are strongly encouraged to change your licensing to Creative Commons (either by photo or overall) so that your images can be widely re-used. See How to change your licenses.
We welcome you to share your BEST, well-identified photos with the Encyclopedia of Life Images group so that they can be displayed on www.eol.org.
