So let's talk about the next photowalk

It's been a month or so. Time for the next one. As much as I love St. Paul, we have been shunning our neighbor to the west for too long. I don't know Mpls nearly as well as St. Paul, so I leave the suggestions to you, good people.

...now GO!

Michales: The Twin Cities' loss is Burlington's gain.

Amee: Ah, I see. If you'll stay here until summer, it should feel just like home (plus some mosquitos).

So...any ideas, anyone?

My vote would be for downtown (maybe warehouse district? or along the river) or near-northeast. I'm out of town (again) next weekend, so how about the weekend of the 21st?

Posted 33 months ago. ( permalink )

A-Wix  Pro User  says:

Well, kaslingsby, it's like this, see:

A group of Flickrites meet somewheres. Usually some easily-identified landmark or, even better, a place with food and drink. We take lots of pictures of each other taking pictures of each other. Then we wander. And take pictures. Of each other. Sometimes the scenery too. Then we go back to a place for more food and drink. Then we disperse and post our pictures with a common tag so they are easily viewed together. We're a fun bunch of dorks with cameras. Our last photowalk was in Highland Park, with a turnout of around 25 folks. Lots of people asked us if we were tourists or looking for owls.

To see some examples of photowalks, look here. Or here. Or here. Or even here. You should come along. They're a hoot.

From A-Wix's original post, a few Mpls locations we could do...
-Dinky Town–lots of meeting places
-Warehouse district was mentioned–lots of meeting places
-Midtown Global Market on East Lake St.-multitude of lunch options
-26th & Nicollet Ave.S.-–lots of meeting places.
-Lyn/Lake, though I'm sure for some people, it's been done before
I'm no expert, just a few options.

26th & nicollet has been done once as a dusk/night walk.

cuzzy's is good by me. as are the dates.

to me, guthrie & the stone arch bridge area is a separate photowalk. there's plenty in the warehouse district to keep us there for quite some time.

Cuzzy's doesn't open until 5pm on Saturdays, so that's out as a meeting point if we're going to try and do it in the afternoon (though it's a possiblity for afters if things run long).

The Monte Carlo opens at 11 daily. Planning to roll out of there at 12:45, maybe? (Which means arriving at 11:45 if you plan to eat)

Or is that too early for folks? For me, I need to be done and home by 5pm, so I'd like to get started shortly after noon.

i'll reiterate my initial suggestion, then. old chicago is on first ave at 5th st. for those interested in park & ride, it's at the end of the lrt line. they open at 11am daily.

You don't like the dark wook, red-velvet wall-covering, "gentleman's smoking club" atmosphere of the Monte Carlo? Heck, I could probably spend a couple hours shooting pictures inside the joint.

Lots of people asked us if we were tourists or looking for owls.

I'll try that one. It'll be hard to justify owls in a bar, but it's worth a try, you never know.

I caught an awful cold from a friend of one of my relatives (b%$t&rd!) earlier this week, confining me indoors for most of my trip here in Mexico. I hope I'll be better by this weekend (I fly back tomorrow) and make it.

or we could just meet on a corner then pick a restaurant to go to later, for those who would like to do that. personally, i much prefer doing that, as it truly makes the most sense. i think meeting at 1st & 5th at the end of the lrt platform is a perfect start.

Missed you all by a week. I'm in the cities this weekend. Haven't done a slew of picture taking other than silly things like going to moa and ikea yesterday by way of the light rail (my first time on mpls mass transit) and a required stop at hell's kitchen for breakfast. I may have more photo ops this weekend.

Looking forward to going on a future walk and as long as the job thing pans out, I'll likely be moving here around year's end. There'll be more treks between now and then. Have fun on your walk. Looking forward to see the pics.

Do you guys ever use upcoming.org for scheduling and getting an idea how who/how many are coming? We use it for all our flickrwalks in Omaha & Lincoln. When you add them there and send the upcoming link to the flickr powers that be, they add it to their calendar on the flickr blog and will send you free flickr schwag to give out.

massdistraction did that once, i believe. not sure if it was upcoming.org specifically, but something like that. the shwag didn't come 'til much later, but it was available for future walks.
so far just using the discussion area in the group has worked out well for us i think.

is anyone attending this photowalk afraid of dogs? lydia would very much like to join us, but i wanted to make sure no one would be freaked out. she's very mellow & sweet & won't bother you. she enjoyed the abandoned twin cities photowalk & deserves another, especially if the weather stays as nice as it has been lately.

she is dog aggressive, though, so no others.
