About Taylorcraft Classics - Cub, Chummy, Ace, Ranch Wagon, Seabird, Z

Clarence Gilbert Taylor, a self-taught aeronautical engineer from Nottingham, England, developed a sturdy yet lightweight, reliable little high-winged monoplane called the Chummy in 1926, along with the Taylor Cub in 1931. When Taylor moved to the US, his company was bought out by a Pennsylvania oil man named Bill Piper, who took the design and produced that now familiar pretty little yellow airplane with the same name. Derivatives of the Cub are still being offered by various companies to this day.

During the War, Taylor produced a two-place liaison aircraft called as the DCO-65, better known as the L-2 Grasshopper (which served alongside Piper's Cub L-planes), along with the Auster Mk. I through V. Taylor produced several other models, including the Ace, Seabird, Sportsman, De Luxe, Special De Luxe, Traveler, and Zephyr. A decent number of these fine old aircraft, especially the Cub, are the pride and joy of their lucky owners.
