About Tatra cars and trucks
This group is dedicated to one of the oldest automobile factories in the world which is still in existence: the Tatra company in Koprivnice, Czech Republic. Founded as a factory of carriages and coaches in 1850 by Mr Ignac Schustala, the company built its first passenger car "Präsident" in 1897 and their first utility car, with a 2T loading capacity, in 1899. The genius of Hans Ledwinka showed in the famous streamlined cars and earned the firm a foremost place in car history. Although production of cars came to a halt in 1998, the firm still produces heavy duty trucks and rigs, known the world over for their unsurpassed qualities and as competitors - and winners! - in the gruelling Paris - Dakar desert rallyes.
