[OFFICIAL RULES] Tangerine Tango Quilt Challenge
|
Rules:
1. There will be 2 categories:
- Minis: Longest side under 30". Pillows, table runners, place mats, mug rugs, etc. will count as minis.
- Quilts: any size from baby to bed
2. Oranges should be as "tango-y" as possible, but all shades of orange are welcome.
3. Focus should be on Tangerine, but one other color and one neutral can be included in the quilts. For our purposes, neutrals include shades of white, cream, beige, brown, gray, and black.
4. The contest will run from January 2nd through March 2nd, 2012.
5. You can submit one entry per category. Entries should be completed projects, including quilting & binding.
Entries:
1. Since there will be lots of pictures in the Flickr Pool, please make sure to post pictures of your entries in the "Official Entries" threads (there will be 2 - one for minis and one for quilts). Please only post entries in these threads, not questions or comments.
2. Each entry should have 3 photos: full picture and 2 detail pictures.
3. Each entry should include quilt dimensions.
4. Entries should be complete & posted in the correct "Official Entries" thread by midnight PST on March 2nd, 2012.
*To include photos in your comment, copy the Flickr URL for the picture, then paste it in the comment section between brackets. ex.: [www.flickr.com/.....]
Please let us know if you have any questions or need clarifications!

I've got a question about colors.
If I use fabric with words/letters (black on white background) will it be counted that I used two colors? Or I'll be allowed to use one color more?
What about tangerine fabric with small details in other colors (for example HR FFA dandelions) - this will be counted as additional colors or will we be allowed to use other colors too?

The premade sponsored fabric bundles would break these rules as written. For example, Delray's bundle - gorgeously orange, but the stack has an assortment of neutrals among the prints (linen/white/brown/black/etc...). I assume your intent isn't such that people would buy a bundle and then be disqualified using a mix of prints in the bundle? Am I misunderstanding the colour requirements?

As long as the fabric is predominately Tangerine Tango, that's fine. Ruling out all colored graphics on prints would leave us all with a small selection of mostly solids! As long as the print reads as tangerine, use it!
We want this contest to be FUN!!
I would say that black words on a white background can either count as black or white, depending on how it's used.

So maybe could we make a topic and put there our bundles (from our stash) and you could write if it's ok or not?
I don't plan to use a lot of other colors (only as an addition), but using fabric with words (b&w) and gray sashing is not in 100% within the rules.

Don't stress too much over the fabric colors! The point of this (hopefully fun!) challenge is just to showcase the color Tangerine Tango in quilting. As long as your "tangerine" fabrics read primarily Tangerine and your "neutral" fabrics read primarily that neutral color, you're OK. The only reason we put any limitations on the other colors you can use (a neutral + one other color) is that we wanted to make sure that Tangerine Tango was the focus of the piece.
Ali & I aren't going to be doing the final judging - so we can't really pass off on a particular fabric or bundle. I would just think of your overall design & when thinking of what it will look like as a whole - if you can say that you feel like it fits within the rule of "Tangerine + one other color + one neutral" then you're OK. :]

If I use tangerine and green with white as my neutral, am I allowed to use multiple fabrics using those colours? I know I can use multiple tangerine prints, but the reference to one other colour could mean 'green' or it could mean 'one' other.
I think I have a vague plan, not that my ordered fabrics have arrived yet which may change my mind.

yup, as many different prints as you want as long as it sticks to the tangerine + 1 other + 1 neutral guideline. Tangerine & green sound cool!

Hi! I'm so happy to have my favourite orange quilt to join! I tried to make my entry and copied the photo URL:s but there appears only the URL text and not the photo?
Thank you for hosting this great challenge!
