I'm up for anything that involves using cameras. :) you know i've been living in taiwan for three years and i haven't seen any big temple ritual save for the minor ones. so this ghost month is new to me. Perhaps,...the locals can give us more info..

I'm up if i'm still around. going to canada sept 10th-ish.
should be happenings on 1st and 15th of lunar month.
this Monday(Lunar first of ghost month) is bu du, which means every temple(throughout Taiwan) will be hopping. Heard lu er men could be fun.

i have no idea what times will be best, but there should be stuff all day with some down times here and there.
my advice lance: skip work.
sadly skipping my wife may not be so easy.
ran into alex (lechesis) today and he said kai shan rd. has a temple called(damn. already forget, something with a huang in it). should'nt be too hard to find. he said this temple had something to do with governing the ghosts. sounds like the right temple to be at.
oh, and happy birthday to lance!!
maybe you'll get some beer out of us on monday.

1st or 2nd is also good for me too.
anybody up for some temple shots at the "mall-sized" temple near Chigu (maybe its in Chigu)? not sure if there's any event there during that weekend. actually,..any temple would do for me...as long as there are lots of people and some nice events :)
for landscapes,..i plan to go to the salt beds..but im not sure if theyre gathering salt now...especially after the rain.
anything in particular you would like to see, Craig?
anyway,..those areas are a bit far from the city. but i can take four people with me. if im lucky, maybe i can borrow a van...but thats in case we'll be more than 5...
Lief, hahaha! skipping wives is always tricky. anyway, thanks again for extending your shop hours :) I'll try that temple in Kaishan...and perhaps i'll drop by your place after.

In Tainan I've been to the usual tourist places - the temples in the city and the Anping area, but I've not been anywhere else. So I'm happy to go anywhere.

i'd love to go on monday lance, but i'm afraid i just can't skip work. is the mall size temple in chigu the one with the abandoned waterpark next to it? i'm not even sure that is in chigu now that i write that.

Whoops, did you skip work Lance?
I went to Cheng Huang Temple on Kai Shan-cool temple, in charge of the "good brothers" i was told, but there was nothing happening. they had their pu du a couple of days earlier(like many of the temples i found out-too late)
had a great day of shooting but not the 'hoppping" i was expecting.

Lief,..yes i certainly did! same experience here. I went to the huge temple in chigu...nothing there..so i wnt to kaishan..found the temple but nothing too....so i just walked around tainan to every temple i know...and did some streetphotog along the way. no hopping, but it was a good day of shoot nonetheless. :)
at least i got to finish my roll,...and found some materials for my future darkroom equipment. :) the shop near the firestation had some developing tanks...but they were the paterson type. im looking for steel tanks as i tend to break plastic easily :D and then i found a changing bag in a shop near the Vieshow/ FE mega building along minzu. really considering home processing now :)

they have pattersone tanks? i really need to go in there and take a look then. i've been wanting some of those. well, one at least. what shop had the changing bag and how much was it?
btw, i think we should finalize plans for this weekend so everyone knows where to meet up. i met MHGau this weekend in kaohsiung and he told me he'd like to come up for the next tainan flickr meet up too.

they weren't paterson, but similar. the tank is made in spain..the brand is APO..or somthing like that. comes with two reels that you can adjust to take on 120/220 film...goes for 700nt. the changing bag is 650nt. not bad if you process all the time. the shop near the firestation also sell the chemistry. i just worry that the plastic tank might be light leaky or some fluids might leak out of it when you agitate. so i'll look else where for those metal ones. i think those are a lot better.
the shop with the changing bag is near the FE mega building, minzu rd. corner...gongyuen. rd. is somewhere there beside the "coffee gallery"
so anyway,...yeah...lets finalize the meeting this weekend. but im out of ideas. :) so ill let you guys worry about where and when...and maybe how. :D

i know people who have used the plastic tanks and they said they didn't have any problems. for me it's not a big deal. but i'm definately going to have a look today before work.

there's only one changing bag left in that shop...and im going to give way to you since i think you should really do home processing. :) i consume one roll a month...so lab processing is still practical. so you should get it, william. if you're comfortable using the plastic tank..i think it should be ok. i just dont think the lid should be screwed on...but i'll let you judge. so yeah..check it out.
as for this weekend...i suggest that we do it on a sunday...and meet at lief's shop/resto. :D
so who's in??? in need to know as early as now...so i can decide whether to borrow the van or not.
lechesis,...are you around??? hahaha!

i'll be there for sure.
lance, i went and picked up the tank(but not chemicals, the grand daughter was there and she wasn't sure what i would need with it - said to check back when her grandfather was there) and i did buy the changing bag. after i got it i started to feel guilty, because maybe i should have left it for you, but then i see your message so it's all good. :)

I have a photo shooting on this weekend up in Pinglin, so no chance for makeing it to Tainan for another time, sorry.
Really have to work on getting down there soon as it seems Tainan is kind of the Photo-capital of Taiwan now. :-)

met up with gitsfan and his friend (also a flickr member) this morning to take some sunrise shots at er-liao (2 1/2 Tainan Flickr Meet. :D). he and his friend are coming on sunday.

yeah, i'll bring it. i was using it tonight to respool some 120 onto 620. i know from experience that a pillow case or even a shirt can work nearly as well(i once had to open my lc-a in the middle of nowwhere to check something and i don't think i even lost any frames from it - i just used the black t-shirt i was wearing as a makeshift changing bag).

great shots lance, and happily my mouth is only hanging open in one shot! the next meetup will not be the same without you. you'll have to come back and visit us soon! i've created a set for the third meetup here in case anyone wants to take a look. not all of the shots are there yet, but most of them are.
