About U.K. and Ireland's Hoverflies (Syrphidae)
There is 6,000 specie of Hover Flies world wide, the U.K. and Ireland's contribution to that total amounts to some 270 name specie, 5.5% not a lot out of the total, but some are rare and some of the rarer ones are cited as endangered. So that is the challenge, and what this group is all about:
1. To photographically record all 270 specie.
2. To positively identify all 270 specie.
So if your a novice, or a qualified entomologist who specialises in diptera and has a bent for the family syrphidae then please join the group, we'll need you.
