About swoon

anything swoon - flicks, articles, shows...

excerp by swoon from "urban caligraphy and beyond":

"We belong to the endless signs of life in our cities, which are so often designed without wasting any thought on their residents. Stories of stone and pavement attempt to construct an image of stable austerity until we come along with our dirty fingerprints, the traces of our dirty thoughts, our spray paint scrawls and our climpy, pealing wheat pastes. We are drawing a living map of our cities, turning the inside out. We are everywhere and as contagious as a virus. With every action, I am trying to create a personal presence. I am teasing and whispering “you can do this too”. In some utopian fantasies that I feel we are directly on the edge of fulfilling, I imagine cities so full of life that every surface bears its mark. All detritus becomes art. All space becomes public, open for the democratic, dog-eat-dog flow of information and communication. Right now is the first time in human history that a majority of people live in urban environments. We are thirsting for wilderness. I believe that, in seeking it, our generation creates wilderness for itself. Our walls become screeching jungles; rapacious conversations, life, death, birth and decay are written aloud all around us. These portraits are x-rays of my city plastered back upon its surface. Through the hundreds of holes that I cut into them, I am trying to interact with the walls beneath them. I am trying to create a record of events, which may or may not have happened here, which could have happened anywhere. Enjoy."
