Meetup et ETH Hönggerberg, Zürich on 29th August 2010

Those of you who have been with us for a little while will remember our very successful day at the ETH in Zürich during 2008. We’ve taken a poll and the most popular date has been selected for our second visit:

We'll be meeting at the campus café on Sunday 29th August 2010 at 10:00, and shooting all day. The cafe is nr. 16 on this map.

This is going to be a “regular” Strobist day: we’ll be outside for much of the day, separated into groups according to how many people attend. I’m in discussions with a contact at the ETH to perhaps be able to shoot at an indoor location on campus; more details will follow as soon as they become available. We’ve also engaged two three four volunteer "models".

There will be no “fee” for attendees but we will be asking every photographer to contribute Fr. 10 towards the models’ travelling expenses. (If there are less than 20 photographers present for any reason, we may have to ask for a little more, but the cost per photographer will not exceed Fr. 20.)

Attendees can download the TfP contract here: swiss-strobist.ch/media/swissstrobist_tfp_contract_en.pdf Please print at least 4 copies and bring them with you.

As space is fairly unlimited for photography on the campus, we’re not going to limit the number of photographers. Please add a comment here if you’ll be comng along though, so we can get a rough idea of how many people will be coming.

There is no "official sign-up"; just add a comment here.

Information on how to get to the ETH campus at Hönggerberg can be found at www.ethz.ch/about/location/hoengg/index_EN

Group leaders are as usual.

Hey everyone I'm looking forward to joining you for the first time on Sunday. A couple of questions from a strobist virgin...What do I need to bring equipment wise? I'm new to this so I don't have a lot of flash units/stands/umbrellas/pocket wizards etc and I'm not sure what equipment is required - can anyone help?:-) Thx:-)

negora says:

Hey Julie,

If you don't have a lot of lighting gear, then it's easy, don't take any of it with you :) Whatever you have and are willing to carry around will probably end up being used, if needed, if not, you'll be able to borrow someone else's stuff for your own shots.

These meetings are quite informal and everyone is very open to sharing, not only equipment, but also knowledge. So bring your camera, any other lighting stuff is just a bonus.

Hope you all will be having fun. Looking forward to see the photos!

I plan to give a general introduction into the world of strobism to anyone who's interested, no gear required.

It looks like they urgently need some better photos, maybe something can be done about that...

The meetup isn't restricted to one location; the whole outdoor area of the campus is usually freely accessible (within reason). Each group leader will hunt down a place to shoot with their respective group. We're meeting in the cafe at 10:00.

They are more than once a year: usually 2-3 times, at various locations across Switzerland. We'll probably be meeting in the spring, when the weather is warm enough to allow all-day outdoor shoots again.
