******* PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING TO THE POOL ******

This group is about depth of field, shadows, silhouettes, translucency, reflections, light through clouds hitting the landscape and other photos where the quality of light is the paramount feature of the photo. Think Man Ray's Rayograms, pinhole camera shots, early Edward Steichen, Gene Meatyard, and Ansel Adams landscapes, not to be imitated but as inspirations for our own unique explorations of how light fills our world.

This group is not primarily about photo manipulations, but channel mixing, split toning, subtle colorization, brightness and contrast, removing dust sensor specks, subtle use of layering, etc, is OK. The main thing is the light qualities of the photo should come from seeing light in the world and not from a lot of post processing effects. I'm not looking for an ordinary photo that has had a quick unsubtle photoshop filter applied to it. Some HDR or IR is OK, as long as it's not over the top and excessively artificial looking. Obviously this does not mean no use of photoshop, but it does mean the tech should support the light and not vice versa. Note these are rough and ready guidelines and not hard and fast rules. My main concern is to avoid photos that look extremely artificial like a 1980s video game or those that have been done before. I would be particularly interested in getting pinhole camera shots and photograms/Rayograms into the pool. If this description isn't clear then I suggest taking a few minutes to look around the pool before posting. This is an open public group and I'm trying to maintain a high standard of quality which is a hard balancing act. Know that I'm not looking for ordinary sunset pictures and that blown out highlights are a pet peeve of mine and that I retain the right to delete photos from the pool if I feel they are not a unique exploration of light. If you are still confused then take a look at the "deleted from the pool" thread in the discussions for examples of photos that don't fit the criteria for Swimming in light.

If you are going to post a photo to the group please take the time to comment on two or more other photos in the group with the emphasis being on the quality of light in the photo. Please copy and paste
